Elizabeth Reiner
Certified Professional Midwife, Maryland Licensed Direct Entry Midwife #00007, Owner/Founder Of Shifrah’s Sisters
Elizabeth (who also goes by Liz) attended her first birth in 2002—it was the birth-center birth of her dear friend Shawna’s 3rd baby and Liz herself was 6 months pregnant with her own daughter. After Liz’s own gentle birth a few months later (in the same bed!), she was called to start on the path to become a midwife herself. She had been blessed to experience how profoundly impactful and empowering birth could be as she started parenthood as a single mother, supported by both of her parents, her sister, Shawna with her 3-month old son, another close friend, and her midwives. It became her passion and joy to hold that same sacred space for many hundreds of families to come since then.
While as a student midwife in 2008, she met her husband Andrew (an eHarmony success with Divine revelation, if you ever want to hear the story!), got married in 2010, and in 2011 she finished up her studies and was blessed with a beautiful water birth of their son. In 2012 she sat for her NARM board exam to become a Certified Professional Midwife.
Elizabeth was born in Washington D.C. and grew up in Northern VA. She moved to Maryland in 2004 and has lived in the country in Frederick County since 2014.
When she isn’t caring for her client families, you can find Liz enjoying time in nature with her beloved family—her husband Andrew and her 2 children—baking sourdough bread or cooking, and playing with her 3 doggies. In addition to birth, she is also passionate about helping people and dogs address the root causes of aging and disease through cellular activation.
Fun facts about Liz:
Her BA was in fine arts with a minor in religion (yes, there was birth-themed artwork, even back then)
She’s older than everyone usually thinks she is
Favorite ways to move: Zumba, walking her 3 dogs, tennis, and cross-country skiing
