Home labor & birth care
what to expect
birth supplies
You will be prepared for your home birth by 36 weeks when Elizabeth and the Birth Assistant organize your birth kit, supplies and birth pool at your prenatal home visit. Elizabeth brings additional supplies and emergency equipment to your birth. An herbal sitz bath is prepared to comfort and heal your perineum.
support team
Your and baby’s wellbeing are supported throughout your birth process by a licensed, certified midwife, and NRP-certified, experienced Birth Assistant to help manage your energy, your labor progress, and hold space for your sacred, family-centered birth experience. You are supported in early labor by phone and by in-home support from active labor through the first few hours postpartum.
birth pool
Elizabeth brings an Aquadoula birth pool to your 36 week home visit and teaches your partner how to set it up. You can use the pool for labor, birth or not at all. The Birth Assistant drains and cleans up the pool after birth.
newborn care
• You will be holding and bonding with your baby undisturbed during the precious Golden Hour after birth. APGARS, vitals and even resuscitation (when needed) are done with baby attached to the umbilical cord, in your arms or right by your side. A complete newborn exam including weight, measurements, vitamin k and erythromycin (if desired) is done 1-2 hours after birth.
clean up
Your birth team cleans up your birth space, takes out the trash, inspects and bags your placenta to be encapsulated or discarded and starts laundry.
follow up care
Elizabeth will call and check on you the day after your birth and she and your Birth Assistant will visit you and baby in your home twice within the next few days. You get direct contact to your midwife Elizabeth by phone, text, email as well as through chat on your online portal.
What clients are saying
“Receiving prenatal care in my own home was luxurious! A few highlights from in-home prenatal care included: having blood drawn for labs from the comfort of my own couch, doing my own swab for GBS testing, not having to schedule childcare for my older daughter, and always the centering meditations and unhurried conversations with Elizabeth.”
— Maddie
“What makes her standout to me is that she truly cares about each woman's right to have the birth she desires. I personally felt that she was genuinely concerned and committed to my person, my pregnancy and the birth of my daughter.”
— Rachel
